In 2009 EcoStab designed the sewerage station for the meeting place "Val St. Marie" to order of the des German/French association Rencontres.
The former monastery of the Trappist order is part of an historical group of buildings together with the nearby farm. The building was from the beginning meant to house pilgrims. It is situated on a side branch of the Road to Santiago coming from Switzerland passing by Biel and Pontalier towards Besancon.
The best place to build the sewerage station was the former quarry. Not far from the building this place was barely visible. The reed bed installation joins harmoniously into the landscape and looks more like a water garden than like a sewerage station.
EcoStab designed a three-step planted station using different life-soil filters and a tertiary treatment pond. The positioning allowed to run the installation using the natural slope. The concept included the use of local materials. Thus 90% of the employed granulates were local lime stone from a nearby quarry.
The construction was executed by Mourot TP from Silley, who is also owner of the quarry delivering the granulates. Part of the ductwork had to be placed inside the rock. Therefore a quite big excavator had to be used, who operated the entire terracing work in only one day. The construction period for the station was only under one week. The plants were delivered from the " Jardins du Sauvionne" ecological water nursery.
