2001 EcoStab designed and constructed the sewerage station for the village of Ueberstrass/France.
The site is situated almost in the middle of the village in full sight from the town hall. Because of this the decision was taken to get the entrance of the waste water as far as possible from existing buildings. To achieve this the station had to be inverted and the entrance is in the lowest part of the site. There is absolutely no odour nuisance from this station, or how else someone would construct his house not even 50m from it?
We designed a three level vegetated reed bed station with parallel vertical filters in entrance, an horizontal basin working in anaerobic digestion and a final maturation pond including an aerobic horizontal entrance sector with a sprinkler system for oxigenisation.
The French water authority mistrusted the system as it didn't follow the construction principle used in France at that time. Because of this the construction was followed up by the Universities of Strasbourg and Nancy. In addition the function of the station had to be proven by a study from an independent laboratory 2 years after putting into service. This study evidenced the perfect functionality of the system.
The statistics of the French water authority showed for many years, that this station had the highest cleaning capacity in the department of Haut Rhin. And presumably it still has.
